Additional information for becoming a Home Inspector in North Carolina

To secure your home inspector license in North Carolina, you must complete the following steps:
 
  1. Applicant must possess either a High School Diploma or GED.
  2.  
  3. Applicant must attend a Board-approved 120 hour pre-licensing course.
  4.  
  5. Applicant must have 80 hours of field training with 10 site visits to meet education and experience requirements.
  6.  
  7. Applicant must complete and pass the Home Inspector Licensing Exam (HILB).
  8.  
  9. Applicant must posses General Liability insurance with a minimum of $250,000. Plus one of the following:

    • Minimum net assets (somewhere between $5k and $10k).
    •  
    • A bond (somewhere between $5k and $10k).
    •  
    • Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance for $250,000.
  11. Applicant must pass background check.
  12.  
  13. Applicant must submit their application with the initial $35 application fee.
