Additional information for becoming a Home Inspector in Montana

Home Inspectors must also obtain an Alaska Business License.
To operate as a home inspector in the state of Montana, you must complete the following steps:
 1. Has successfully completed an approved comprehensive home inspection instruction course that is 40 hours or more or has passed a department-approved national examination.
2. Is a member of a national home inspector association.
3. Is covered by a minimum of $100,000 general commercial liability insurance, and a minimum of $100,000 errors and omissions insurance.
4. Is covered under a workers’ compensation policy or has an independent contractor exemption certificate (ICEC) for the occupation of home inspection.
Upon renewing an existing registration, a home inspector must have completed the following steps:
 1. Has completed 40 hours of continuing education credit over the prior 2 years.
2. Is a member of a national home inspector association.
3. Is covered by a minimum of $100,000 general commercial liability insurance, and a minimum of $100,000 errors and omissions insurance.
4. Is covered under a workers’ compensation policy or has an independent contractor exemption certificate (ICEC) for the occupation of home inspector or home inspection.
