Additional information for becoming a Home Inspector in Alaska
To become a licensed home inspector in Alaska, you must complete the following steps:
- Applicant must be 18 years or older.
- Applicant must possess either a High School Diploma or GED.
- Applicant must complete and pass one of the following exams depending on what they wish to inspect:
- New Homes or Joint Registration – The following four National Exams are required:
- Residential Building Inspector
- Residential Electrical Inspector
- Residential Mechanical Inspector
- Residential Plumbing Inspector
- Existing Homes – The applicant must complete and pass the National Home Inspector Examination.
- Applicant must possess the following insurance types:
- Surety bond in the amount of $10,000.
- Liability insurance in an amount not less than $20,000 property damage, $50,000 injury or death to one person, $100,000 injury or death to more than one person.
- Applicant must provide a notarized applicant and pay the initial $350 application fee.
- New Homes or Joint Registration – The following four National Exams are required:

- Residential Mechanical Inspector
- Residential Plumbing Inspector
