Additional information for becoming a Home Inspector in New York

To secure your home inspector license in New York, you must complete the following steps:
  1. Applicant must possess either a High School Diploma or GED.
  2.  
  3. Applicant must complete 80 hours of state-approved classroom training.
  4.  
    • As part of the 140 hours of education, the applicant must complete 40 hours of field training.
  5. Applicant must complete and pass one of the following exams:

    1. National Home Inspector Exam
    2.  
    3. New York State Home Inspector License Examination
  7. Applicant must possess General Liability insurance for a minimum of $150,000 per occurrence and $500,000 aggregate
  8.  
  9. Applicant must submit their application with the initial $250 inspector fee.
